Thinking adoption?
We’ll help you make the best choice for your family and lifestyle.
Adoption is a great experience and a very loving one, involving a long term commitment. Please keep in mind that successful dog adoption requires very careful thought and research on your part. One of many, and possibly the most important, things to strongly consider is not only your individual and/or family’s life style, but the dog’s specific physical and mental needs based upon what the dog you have in mind was originally bred to do; mixed breeds will have multiple behavior characteristics to consider. Ask yourself whether or not the dog’s needs — physical exercise and mental stimulation — can be met by you daily. For example: You live in the city and have a small house or apartment with no unlimited outside access to rolling hills and fields and you adopt a herding dog, initially bred to be moving and working 10 or more hours a day, and now is living in a cubical, essentially. You will have a very bored dog on your hands. What do you imagine will happen? Yes, age will matter, but you have to be ready for what that means too.
Remember to ask yourself whether or not you have the time or interest in providing the dog you want to adopt with what it really needs?
Making the best knowledgeable adoption choice, from the start, will help prevent decisions to re-home your dog because it was not the best fit ~ heartbreaking for all involved.
